Do Something Hard: Self-Sufficiency & Trusting God

Do something hard.

Not something hard for someone else.

Do something that is hard, for you.

Why?

When we're not doing something hard we are given the ability to keep up our oh so precious false facade of self-sufficiency.

We like to do things that are easy or at least, easy for us, because it makes us feel like we're enough, like we can handle what life will throw at us.

Doing something hard might provide us with a challenge that we can't overcome, a task to difficult to face.

We like easy, we like predictable, we like stable, we don't like when the outcome is not already known.

What if I fail?

What if the challenge is too great?

What if I find out I'm not enough?

What if I discover I can't do it?

We're scared.

Scared of finding out the truth about ourselves.

Scared of coming to terms with our limitations.

And scared to rely on God, and trust him.

Do Something Hard

Yes, we're scared.

Yes, we don't know the outcome.

But we're willing to see what God will do.

Do something hard.

You may fail or you may succeed, but the outcome is less important than your commitment to trust God regardless.

Do something hard, not only hard, but something worthwhile.

Many things are hard to do, but few are worth doing.

Do something hard for the kingdom of God, love someone unconditionally, tell someone about the hope within you, forgive.

You will fail, but let that draw you back to the one who is all sufficient, who is not surprised with your failure, but asks you again to step out, do something hard, and trust Him.
